The Rotary Club of Leominster is providing emergency funding for 100 gallons of oil in a crisis situation, according to Christine Pelletier, president of the club.

This program is meant to expand on the Mayor’s Fuel program with the emphasis on immediate delivery in a desperate same-day need with very little paperwork but a high level of honesty and  trust, Pelletier said.

Members of Rotary Clubs throughout the world are held to a high standard of integrity and one of the principles of Rotary International is community service, especially where there is a need. The Rotary Club of Leominster has been deeply involved in the city of Leominster for over 95 years and has contributed over a million dollars during that time, according to a press release.

For a number of years the Rotary Club of Leominster was fortunate to receive a grant from Rotary International to match its fundraising efforts to provide fuel assistance. This grant allowed the organization to support this program with $3,000, according to Claire Freda, publicity chair and past president.

Pelletier noted that the current economic situation in the community with job loss, oil cost increases and cold weather compelled the board of directors to “dig into our savings” to provide $3,000 once again.

“Our fundraising efforts have been limited during this pandemic but we are hopeful that our annual programs will continue to be supported by the community,” Pelletier said. “The flower boxes downtown, our historic calendars and a new 50/50 donation split will hopefully help us to replenish our account.”

People that need emergency aid can contact any Rotarian, Pelletier at Edward Jones in Johnny Appleseed Plaza at 978 537-5347, Claire Freda at 978 537-5032 or through the Mayor’s office.

For anyone interested in donating to the 50/50, please call Rotarian Frank Ardinger at 508 479-0895. For a donation of $10 one will have one chance to share the amount or one can buy three chances for $25.
